Small-Scale Electrolyzer for Experimental Water Electrolysis to Produce Hydrogen

The anion-exchange membrane (AEM) electrolyzer is a third-generation water electrolysis technology that combines the advantages of traditional alkaline electrolyzers (ALK) and proton-exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzers. It enables efficient transport of hydroxide ions (OH⁻) through a solid-state polymer electrolyte membrane, and carry out the water electrolysis reaction in an alkaline environment. This technology not only addresses the issue of low current density in ALK operation but also circumvents the reliance on precious metals in PEM electrolysers, making it a core component for green hydrogen production under carbon neutrality goals.

Application Scenarios

Basic Theoretical Research and Materials Development
The AEM electrolyzer serves as an ideal platform for studying the mechanisms of electrolytic reactions and developing new membrane materials and catalysts. For example, it can be used to evaluate the performance of anion-exchange membranes (AEM) or to test new membrane electrode assemblies (MEA).

Standardized Testing and Validation
They can be used to establish comprehensive electrolyzer testing platforms that comply with international standards, or to conduct validation tests for specific projects such as long-term stability and durability.

Teaching and Experimental Platforms
With their moderate power output (e.g., 300 W–2 kW) and plug-and-play functionality, they are well-suited for use in university laboratories for teaching demonstrations and student experiments in courses such as "Hydrogen Energy and Fuel Cells."
